MAKE A WOOD RELIEF CARVING OR SCULPTURE

Our wood carving classes offer the opportunity to learn a wide variety of wood carving techniques, from relief carving to sculpture. Start with a relief carving to learn some basic carving techniques and then choose a project that interests you, either relief, or in the round. Be guided through all the stages of making it from design work to carving and finishing.

Come and gain a comprehensive introduction to wood carving skills and the knowledge to set yourself up to carve at home or, stay for longer and develop your skills at your own pace under tutor guidance.

COURSE LENGTH:

Your initial booking is for 18 teaching hours (4 days or 8 evenings) but you will have the option to stay on in the class on a rolling basis thereafter.

SKILL LEVEL:

ANY – Suitable for complete beginners and also those wanting to improve their skills under expert guidance

COURSE TIME OPTIONS:

Tuesday evening classes 6.20pm – 8.45pm

Wednesday morning classes 10.00am – 12.25pm

All classes must be taken consecutively

HOW TO BOOK IN:

You can book in and pay the initial course fee through this website page using the drop down menus above.

If you decide to stay on after the initial 4 daytime or 8 evening classes, we will set up a payment agreement with you using the WorldPay FuturePay facility. This will enable us to take payment from a card for 2 classes every 2 weeks in advance. You can leave the class at any time but we do ask for 2 weeks notice.

INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE:

Tutoring, tool use and your first piece of wood (oak) for the relief carving are included in the initial course fee. When you choose your project, you can either buy a board or block from our stock of oak or source your own timber with our help.  As a guide, an oak board for relief carving of 200 x 170mm would cost approximately £10.

If you have a specific project or timber in mind before you start your classes please do let us know.

HOW OUR CLASSES WORK:

Our carving classes are mixed level.

Tuition is given on an individual basis at each student’s bench to ensure a fully COVID-secure working and learning environment.

We run waiting lists for cancellation spaces on all of our fully booked courses – to be added to a list please email hello@themakershedbristol.co.uk. Please consider including your telephone number, as spaces sometimes become available at short notice.
