MAKE A TOTE AND WASH BAG

Get to grips with sewing with our beginner’s sewing course. 

In this course, we will walk you through all the steps to get you started on your sewing journey and build your confidence with some simple activities. Learn how to set up and use a sewing machine, follow a simple pattern and sew fastenings such as zips and buttons.

You will make a simple, handy buttoned tote bag and a wash bag with a zip and lining from Oeko-Tex certified canvas and organic cotton and gain a strong foundation of sewing skills which you can then apply to future projects.

At the end of your course, you will be able to start making for yourself at home or progress onto our Guided Sewing Projects course and further build on your skills and confidence.

LEARN:

  •  How to set up and use a sewing machine
  •  About different type of stitches, threads & fabrics
  •  How to sew straight seams and different ways to finish them
  • How to cut and pin fabric using a simple pattern  
  •  How to make button holes
  •  How to sew in a zip

COURSE LENGTH:

Your initial booking is for 18 teaching hours (4 days or 8 evenings) but you will have the option to stay on in the class on a rolling basis thereafter and take our Guided Sewing Projects course.

SKILL LEVEL:

1 – Suitable for beginners

COURSE TIME OPTIONS:

Thursday evening classes 6.20pm – 8.35pm

Friday daytime classes 10.00am – 3.00pm

All classes must be taken consecutively

INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE:

All materials, tutoring and tool use – there are no additional costs

If you would like to bring your own canvas fabric for the projects or your own sewing machine to use that’s absolutely fine – just bring them along to the class.

HOW OUR CLASSES WORK:

Our sewing classes have a tutor:student ratio of 1:8. They are mixed level, which means there may be people in your class working on different projects to you.

Tuition is given on an individual basis at each student’s bench to ensure a fully COVID-secure working and learning environment.
