LEARN TO WEAVE ON A RIGID HEDDLE LOOM

Ever wanted to weave your own fabric? This course will set you up with a foundation of handweaving skills with the opportunity to learn how to make your own placemats or table runners to take home.

You will learn how to thread up a loom, pick yarn and how to finish your handwoven creations so that they can be used long into the future. We will cover how to read a draft pattern and why tension is one of the most important parts of weaving.

This is a great introduction to handweaving and a perfect starting point for creating your own fabrics.

COURSE LENGTH:

Your initial booking is for 18 teaching hours (4 days or 8 evenings) but you will have the option to stay on in the class on a rolling basis thereafter and take our level 2 and 3 courses.

SKILL LEVEL:

1 – Suitable for beginners

COURSE TIME OPTIONS:

Monday evening classes 6.20pm – 8.35pm

Tuesday daytime classes 10.00am – 3.00pm

All weekly classes must be taken consecutively

HOW TO BOOK IN:

You can book in and pay the course fee through this website page using the drop down menus above.

INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE:

Tutoring, tool use and basic sundries only. Yarn is not included in the course fee because we want you to be able to choose your own colour scheme. Please purchase two or more different colours (200g each) direct from the supplier here: My Fine Weaving Yarn / Mercerised Cotton 8/4  It’s important that you buy exactly this yarn type for the course. 200g each of two colours is enough yarn to make either four placemats or two placemats and a table runner

If you would like to bring your own rigid heddle loom to use that’s absolutely fine – just let us know. We also offer the option to take one of our looms home to keep working mid course once the tutor is happy that you can continue un-guided. There is a deposit of £150 payable for this at the time.

HOW OUR CLASSES WORK:

Our weaving classes have a tutor:student ratio of 1:8. They are mixed level, which means there may be people in your class working on different projects to you.

Tuition is given on an individual basis at each student’s bench to ensure a fully COVID-secure working and learning environment.

We run waiting lists for cancellation spaces on all of our fully booked courses – to be added to a list please email hello@themakershedbristol.co.uk. Please consider including your telephone number, as spaces sometimes become available at short notice.
